Sustainability
How Texiterra products are
sustainably produced
The Texiterra range consists of cold pressed natural oils and natural exfoliants, carefully sourced from partners who share Scott Bader’s ethics and values.
Cold pressed rapeseed oil
Our cold pressed rapeseed oil is carbon neutral, plastic neutral and grown to sustainable LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) Marque standards. LEAF Marque is a farm assurance system that shows that the crop has been grown sustainably with care for the environment through extended crop rotations, cover crops, companion crops, wildflower meadow margins, tree and hedgerow planting, beetle banks and beehives. These methods improve the biodiversity on the farm and ensures that sustainability stays front of mind throughout the whole farming system.
The production process:
- The seeds are gently squeezed to release the golden oil
- The oil is then filtered to remove any remaining seed husks, by passing it through a material a bit like coffee filter paper
- The filtered oil is then bottled ready for use
- There is no waste in producing the cold pressed rapeseed oil as the seed husks are pressed together into pellets and sold to local farmers as a high quality animal feed.
Ethical partnerships
Our African oils supply partner was created to harvest and process wild harvested natural products. It’s objective is to contribute to community development throughout Zimbabwe, particularly for women, by generating alternative production activities, employment opportunities and improved living conditions. This is achieved within a framework that protects and manages production in an ecologically sound manner.
Our oil feedstocks are produced by rural farmers in the districts of Binga, Hwange, Lupane, Kwekwe, Mutoko, Mudzi, Rushinga, Chipinge, Chimanimani, Mwenezi, Chivi and Mberengwa covering about 900 hectares of forest area all throughout Zimbabwe.
There are a total of 2,437 farmers, 22% men and 78% women, actively involved in harvesting and selling fruit, seeds, nuts, and plant materials. Organised into groups around their villages. the farmers are trained by our oil supply partner in sustainable harvesting of raw material, pre- processing, and quality management.
